Cat Thinclads Do Well at C-11 Track Districts
Campbell, Roes, and Wood to State Meet
The Hemingford High School Track and Field teams made the drive to Bayard for the C-11 District meet a successful one, as three athletes qualified for next week's State Championships in Omaha.
Senior Brody Roes will be throwing the discus after a second place finish. He came up with one of his better throws all season in warm-ups, but waited until one of his final throws to cement his position as a qualifier. Roes also placed third in the shot put for Coach Tim Lanik. The Bobcats weight coach is Lisa Janssen.
Junior Shelby Campbell is again headed to Burke Stadium in the hurdles. Campbell continues to make the trip to state an annual one, with this the third year in a row that she has qualified. She finished in second place in both the 100 Intermediate Hurdles and in the 300 Low Hurdles for Head Coach Cindy Ahrens and hurdles coach Kay Horstman.
Freshman running star Baily Wood is also headed to the state's largest city to try her skills on the newly refinished surface at Burke Stadium. Qualifying earlier this fall for state cross country will undoubtedly help Wood do well. Her distance coach is Tim Lanik.
Other efforts by the cats that resulted in places included the third place finish in the high jump by Junior Jordan Petersen,
a fourth place finish in the 3200 by Beau Hartman, as well as a sixth place finish in the 1600,
a fourth place finish by the Boy's 4 x 800 relay, including team members Michael Bergfield, Steven Overshiner, Brandon Roland, and Michael McCoy; The same quartet placed sixth in the 4 x 100 relay. Sixth place finishes in the 400 were earned by Kendal Colson and Brooke Foster; Colson also placed sixth in the 200.
Relay placing for the girls included the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays. Ashley Yardley and Katee Folkerts ran on both placing relays, and they were joined on the 400 relay by Shelby Campbell and Brooke Foster. The other members of the 1600 meter relay were Tannis Reif and Alysha Kittlemann.
Senior Todd Prochazka qualified in the finals of the 110 High Hurdles and in the finals of the Triple Jump.
Junior Luke Moser placed sixth in the 300 Intermediate hurdles and in the 110 highs. He also placed sixth in the long jump.
State Meet competition will be at Omaha Burke Stadium, Friday and Saturday, May 15th and 16th.
