Yoder, Wyoming (Southeast Duals) Summary
This weekend the Bobcat wrestlers where a little short in numbers which made it hard to compete in a dual tournament. We can look back on the day knowing we won 12 out of 20 matches. Austin Huddle had a great day with 5 wins out of 5 matches. Lee Jespersen did a great job of finishing strong after an early loss, ending up with 3 wins and 2 losses. Wyatt Stricker and Dylan Ernesti both walked away with at least one victory a piece, but stats where not available for their matches at this time.
This week is all about healing up an making sure we are taking care of business as we prepare for the district meet hosted by North Platte St. Pat’s on Friday and Saturday in North Platte. I think the kids are looking forward to a strong finish and are not ready to be done wrestling just quite yet.

Hay Springs Dual Summary
The wrestlers were very excited to see such a great turnout for their home event. The guys rebounded very well from the tough Chadron event. We came out very aggressively in the 5 varsity matches we had with Hay Springs wrestlers. We won 3 out of five matches, all by pins. In the two losses, Tarin and Lee Jespersen both wrestled well, neither of them gave up a pin like they did earlier in season to the same two opponents at the previous dual.
We finished up the night with three exhibition matches with some of Hay Springs better wrestlers. All three of those matches might not have ended the way we would have wished, but they were still a great experience for the wrestlers.
I am also very pleased to announce that we took in five boxes of food and a small amount for a monetary donation for the food bank. This goes to show how we are blessed to live in such a small community that can really support each other.
Mitchell Invite Summary
The morning started off really well with our Junior varsity wrestlers Dylan Ernesti earned a second place finish with two wins and one loss on the day. Wyatt Stricker closed out his tournament career as a senior earning a first place with two wins and a bye. This set a great tone for our varsity wrestlers. We faced some very tough draws in the first two rounds.
Our kids faced the challenge with great intensity level. We might not have won all the matches we wanted to, but we definitely made them wrestle all six minutes. Six out of 7 of our wrestlers lost their constellation semifinal match, one win from medaling.
Cooper Weber was the lone placer at the event, earning himself a fourth place finish in a very loaded 106 lb. weight class. We definitely regained some of the momentum we lost last week in Chadron. We have another week to mend, and prepare for district competition in North Platte on Valentines day.
The kids are looking forward to closing out their regular season matches with a dual tournament this weekend in Yoder, Wyoming. Wrestling begins at 9:30 am. If you wanted to attend a wrestling meet and not want to wait all day to see our kids wrestle, this would be a great chance to see them wrestle together as they all face off in a dual format. Saturday will be a great way to start off the day before you go support the basketball players at Cougar Palace
Hemingford Competed in a field of Seventeen teams at the 2014 Sandhills Wrestling Invite (@ Dunning)
Thursday night’s dual with Hay Springs was rescheduled for Friday January 31, 2014 at 7 pm. Admission will still be a food item or free will offering to the Hemingford Food Bank. This is also parents night. Please plan on attending the Spaghetti Feed early, then come out and watch our wrestlers in action at their only home event this year.
Saturday we travelled to Dunning Nebraska to compete with 17 other class D schools. This meet was definitely a good test of where we sit for districts. The kids wrestled extremely well. The guys are improving on their ability to control the tempo of their matches and they continue to improve their ability to create scramble situations in their favor. Every one of the eight wrestlers walked out of Dunning with at least one win.
The Team was lead in scoring by Tyler Huddle and Cooper Weber as they both finished second place. Tarin Jespersen had a respectable fourth place finish. Denton Payne and Lee Jespersen both made it to the constellation semifinal round, but came up slightly short of placing. As a team, we didn’t quite get the team score I thought we were capable of. So of this was due to the excessive number of early round bye’s. At the end of the day, I think the kids proved they have the talent to compete with all the schools in that tournament, and we will work on some things to help us get better as we enter the last month of the season.
Great Job Bobcat Wrestlers.
Hemingford finished Seventh out of Nineteen teams at the 2014 Garden County Wrestling Invite
Saturday in Oshkosh we took 6 wrestlers to the Garden County Invitational. This tournament had quite a few district opponents, and provided us the opportunity to see wrestlers that we will face at district and state. As a team we finished 7th out of 19 schools, scoring 63 points. Cooper Weber lead the team with a second place finish. Austin and Tyler Huddle both earned themselves respectable 3rd place finishes. Tarin Jespersen earned his first medal of the year with a fourth place finish.
We had the ability to see wrestlers that we had not seen much of this year, and from schools closer to our size at this tournament. They kids won some key matches against district opponents that are going to pay dividends at districts. The kids came out and wrestled with some great intensity, and definitely are starting to see they are capable of making great things happen. Lee Jespersen and Tarin Jespersen both had great days. This tournament was a great momentum building day for our team as we face some great competition in the weeks to come.
Hemingford finished Seventh out of Nine teams at the 2014 Western Trails Wrestling Invite at Gordon
Thursday in Gordon, our wrestlers competed at the conference meet. As a team we finished 7th out of 9 teams competing scoring 56 team points. We had commendable finishes by Cooper Weber, 2nd, Junior Nevarez, 3rd, Austin Huddle and Denton Payne 4th.
The wrestlers competed well. We showed improvement on our feet, demonstrated we could ride our opponents better, and keep ourselves in some matches that were not so close before Christmas. The intensity level and the positive body language the kids showed on the mat is very promising of things to come.
Hemingford finished Ninth out of Sixteen teams at the 2013 Sidney/Bridgeport Wrestling Invite ( Also won a Dual at Hay Springs)
Coach Pete Gomez
(Saturday, December 21st)
Last Thursday night , December 19th, we won a dual at Hay Springs. I think this was definitely a confidence building step for our wrestling team. We had some key victories including the Denton Payne pinning his opponent at 195 lbs. This win sealed a team victory over the Hawks.
This win was also great for establishing head to head criteria when it comes to district seeding. I am very proud of all of our wrestlers for their contribution to this win, and I think this is a testament to the possibilities that these young men are capable of.
Saturday we were one of 13 teams to compete at the Bridgeport – Sidney Invitational. The caliber of wrestling at this event was top notch. We found ourselves facing some tough competition. Our top finishers including a 3rd place by Cooper Weber at 106, and a fourth place by Tyler Huddle at 145. We had a tough 4th and 5th round, but our kids responded well, and finished out a tough day with some great wins by Matthew Sorenson, Beau Edwards Both earning 5th place finishes. Finishing 9th as a team didn’t quite meet our team goal, but we did finish ahead of all class D teams except Mullen.
We can walk away from the first half of our season knowing that we are definitely capable of making our team goals. We will take a much needed break over the moratorium, make sure we are healthy and rested, so we can come back and work on polishing up our skills as we look forward to the second half of our season.
Hemingford finished Tenth out of Fourteen teams at the 2013 Banner County Wrestling Invite
Coach Pete Gomez
(Saturday, December 14th)
This week we loaded the bus a bit short handed in terms of numbers. The six wrestlers that made the trip to Banner County represented Hemingford very well. Our top placer was Cooper Weber finishing second. Tyler Huddle, Tarin Jespersen, and Denton Payne all finished the tournament in 5th place. As a team we had 16 wins, and 14 losses on the day putting us a bit over 500. This landed us a 10th place finish as a team.
We wrestled better than our team score shows. I think we made some real strides on catching up conditioning with respect to our opponents, but we always have room for improvement. I liked the competitive drive the guys showed on the mat. We showed improvement in some of the areas we wanted to work on this last week. I wanted to see a couple more match-up with class D opponents, but 4 out of 6 guys left the meet with key wins over district opponents and find themselves with a record of 500 or better. This is important as we look forward, because it makes them eligible to be seeded in upcoming events.
This week we face Hay Springs in a dual this Thursday night in Hay Springs at 7 pm. This Saturday we travel to Sidney, where we will face some great competition. Wrestling will start at 9:30 am on Saturday in Sidney.

On Friday, Dec. 6th, the Bobcat wrestlers kicked off their season at the Crawford Invitational. The guys wrestled extremely well considering the number of practices they have had as a team. The coaching staff is very pleased with the effort, intensity and desire to win that this young squad shown at the meet.
