Hello and welcome to another school year at Hemingford District #10.  It seems like my job description continues to change each year.  (So that’s why they told us in college the key to teaching is flexibility!)  This year is no exception.  Not only am I the 7-12 Resource Teacher, I monitor students who are involved in the NovaNET computerized program, I am the assistant director in the Drama program and I am one of the junior class sponsors.  Whew!  It truly is a blessing to be involved in so many areas as it enables me to interact with a variety of students.  I am looking forward to another exciting year and hope that you are as well.

My focus for Practical Skills this year willbe working towards meeting individual goals and objectives and providing new ways of understanding and applying concepts that are difficult for students.  The grading system continues to be based on four major areas:  attendance/punctuality, preparedness, time management and attention in class.  Additionally, I am hoping to involve my students in a variety of field trips designed to improve the skills necessary for success in high school and in post-secondary situations.

Just as there have been changes within my job, there have also been changes within my family.  My eldest son graduated in May 2008, from American University in Washington, DC with a degree in International Relations and is presently awaiting confirmation of admittance into Law School at the University of Wyoming.  My second son will be attending Central College of Iowa, pursuing a degree in history.  My husband continues his battle with Parkinson’s with a positive outlook, which helps keep life in perspective.

If you have any questions, or ever need to discuss an issue, you can contact me before and after school.  In addition, my planning period is from 10:18 – 11:12.

Again, I am looking forward to an awesome year with a possibility for great things to happen.  Welcome back!
