High School Quiz Bowl

High school quiz bowl season flew by this year with one invitational meet in November followed by another invitational meet and two conference meets in March. The team faced tough competition at the Mitchell invitational in November, where the varsity team finished fourth and the junior varsity came in eighth; Austin Wobig and Peyton Sutphen were members of the all-tourney team. The Bayard invitational meet on March 15 was also very competitive. The varsity squad placed seventh while the JV team was eighth, but three Hemingford team members, Natalie Gasseling, Peyton Sutphen, and Austin Wobig, were members of the all-tourney team. Sioux County hosted this year’s Panhandle Conference meet on March 17, where the varsity team placed second overall (just thirty points from first place) and the JV team was ninth. Austin Wobig earned a spot on the all-conference team. Hemingford hosted the Western Trails Conference meet on March 22; only the varsity team was able to compete at this meet, but the team did well and placed fourth. Wobig completed his “sweep” by once again making the all-conference team.

Team members Natalie Gasseling, Jon Mayer, Austin Wobig, Peyton Sutphen, Miles Davis, Kobe Coryell, Luke Cullan, Cade Payne, and Lauren Gasseling, along with coach Jill Hurtt, would like to thank everyone who helped organize and host the WTC Meet, which was held at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church and Parish Center. The meet was very successful but would not even have been possible without the help of numerous members of the Hemingford Schools staff as well as community volunteers who served as readers and timers. Thank you!
