Cats Start BB Season with Tough "D"
Gordon-Rushville and Hyannis are Early Season Victims
There are two things (among others) that a fan will notice when watching Hemingford Bobcat Basketball during the 2012-2013 Season; First, a person might compare player size and see that Hemingford is a little more compact than other teams. Secondly though, fans will notice from the opening tip-off till the final second ticks off the clock that nobody out hustles the Bobcats…………nobody.
The energy, the ball-hounding defense, the positioning and dogfights for rebounds, the fast breaks, and the pay-off; a two on one lay-up, a short jumper, the long “J”, or the put-back after grabbing a rebound. That in a nutshell is what you see when Hemingford is playing.
Two games have been played on the young season, with HHS winning at Gordon (64-30) and at home against Hyannis (68-10). Pretty good “D”, but Coach Randy Hiemstra wants his players to focus even more on the defensive end, to rebound well, and score points in transition.
The offense has been one of balance so far after two games, with four players averaging in double figures; Sophomore Matthew Wood leads the way with 13 ppg; Brady Turek, also a sophomore, adds 12.5 ppg, with Sophomore Colt Foster and Junior Blake Hansen each getting 10 ppg.
Hansen also grabs 6 boards per game on average, while Foster grabs 5 each night. The assist leaders are Wood with 4.5 per game, and Foster with 3.5. Taking the ball away is also a strength at HHS. Hansen leads in steals with 9.5 each game, with Foster swiping 6 on average.
Other significant contributors include Matthew Mayer and Kyle Kamen with 4 boards per game; and Kyle Kumpf with 6 points per game.
Mighty Cats all the way!
