Kimball Invite – March 24, 2012      

Girls Fourth / Boys Fourth

Both Hemingford teams started the 2012 season with fourth place team finishes at Kimball. In the Boys division, Ethan Skinner placed fourth in the 100, Colt Foster placed fifth in the 200; Brady Turek was third in the 400; Blake Hansen and Kyle Kaman were third and fourth respectively in the 800; Kyle Kumpf was third in the high hurdles, while Cash Weber was second in the lows; Colt Foster was fourth in the high jump, and Ethan Skinner was second in the long jump and third in the triple jump; Colt Foster also was fifth in the shot. The 4 x 100 Relay was sixth; the 4 x 400 Relay, HHS was fourth, and the 4 x 800 Relay was sixth. The Boys placed in thirteen events!

The Girls only placed in six events, but piled up some high places; Kelsy Wood won the 100 Highs, with Precious Campbell second and Aubrey Picket Pin sixth; Kaitlyn Jespersen won the triple jump and was sixth in the high jump; Wood also won the long jump, and the 4 x 800 Relay was third with runners Jayleen Forgey, Katie Heitz, Kristine Kramer, and Kaitlyn Jespersen.

Bayard C/D Invite – March 31 , 2012                                               

Girls Third / Boys Twelvth 

The Lady Cats placed third at Bayard behind Wood, Jespersen, and Heitz. Wood won firsts in four events, the 100, the 100 highs, the 300 lows, and the long jump; Kaitlyn Jespersen was second in the triple jump and Katie Heitz was third. Wood’s time of 15.9 in the highs was a new school record, breaking Shelby Campbell’s previous effort a few years back.

The boys had some members at state FFA, and saw just a few placers as they finished 12th. Colt Foster took fifth in the high jump; Blake Hansen took fifth in the 300 lows; The 4 x 800 Relay placed fifth with members Hansen, Kyle Kaman, Ryan King, and Matthew Mayer.

Mitchell Twi-night Invite – April 3, 2012                                     

Girls Fifth / Boys Ninth 

Kelsy Wood took center stage again as the HHS junior won the lows with a record time of 46.5 and the long jump with a record leap of 17’2”; She also was second in the 100 Dash, and third in the highs; Kaitlyn Jespersen was second in the triple jump, with Katie Heitz fourth; The 4 x 100 Relay was sixth with a 56.2, and the 4 x 800 Relay was 5th with team members Aubrey Picket Pin, Kaelia Nelson, Paige Phillips, and Lexi Olsen.

The Boys team featured Ethan Skinner, who finished sixth in the 100, fifth in the 200, and fourth in the long jump at 19’8”; Kyle Kumpf ran a 17.5 for fifth in the 100 highs, and 4 x 800 Relay team ran a 10:20.2 to finish eighth.

Western Trails Conf. Meet at Kimball  – April 3, 2012                       

Girls Fifth / Boys Seventh

Twelve personal bests for the boys team was a highlight, as they won two second places with Ethan Skinner (19’7”)in the long jump and the 4 x 400 Relay (4:04.3) (team members Trevor Benge, Kyle Kaman, Blake Hansen, and Kyle Kumpf; The 4 x 100 relay was third, the 4 x 800 Relay was fourth, and Skinner picked up fifth place medals in both sprints; Kaman also took fifth in the 800, with Hansen taking fifth in the lows. High jumpers finished out the scoring for HHS, with Colt Foster getting fifth and Kumpf earning sixth.

The girls finished fifth, with Kaelia Nelson, Katie Heitz, Kaitlyn Jespersen, and Kelsy Wood scoring big points. Wood took the 100, the 100 highs, the 300 lows, and a record setting long jump event with a leap of 17’3”; Jespersen had a great day, winning the triple jump, earning fifth in the long jump, fifth in the high jump, and was part of a sixth place 4 x 100 Relay! Heitz picked up a second in the triple jump, a seventh in the long jump, a fifth in the 4 x 400 relay, and a sixth in the 4 x 100 relay! Nelson took fourth in the mile, and was a member of all three medaling relays! Paige Phillips, Sam Minich and Bethany Fortner were other team members running on the placing relays.

Chadron Invite – April 21, 2012                                                         

Girls Fourth / Boys Third

Hemingford traveled north to Chadron High School to do a run-through for their upcoming PAC meet, also held at the same site. The Girls were able to get firsts from Kelsy Wood in the 100 (12.9), the 100 highs (15.4) a new school record; the 300 lows (49.02), and the long jump (16’10”); Kaitlyn Jespersen won the triple jump (33’9”) and was third in the long jump. Katie Heitz was runner-up in the triple jump (32’7”), fourth in the high jump, and fifth in the long jump. Paige Phillips threw over 29’ (29’3”) to take third in the shot, and the 4 x 100 relay team finished third, with Heitz, Jespersen, Precious Campbell, and Aubrey Picket Pin running a (57.5) for third.

For the boys, the 4 x 100 relay team claimed their lone championship, running a (46.1) Team members were Colt Foster, Ethan Skinner, Brady Turek, and Cash Weber; Hemingford’s 4 x 400 relay took fourth, and the 4 x 800 relay took third. Skinner also picked up medals in the 100 (second at 11.5); the long jump (fifth), and the triple jump - fourth at (37’9”); Kyle Kumpf was runner0up in the highs (18.2); Blake Hansen was fourth in the 300 lows at (46.7); Matthew Mayer was third in the 3200 (13:09.7) and Kyle Kaman placed in the 800 Fourth at (2:19.1), and the 1600  fifth at (5:31.8) It was a decent meet with a mixture of big and small schools, and helped get the Cats ready for conference.

Best of the West Meet in Scottsbluff – April 24                       

No Team Scoring

Hemingford sent three athletes to the Best in the West All-Star meet in Scottsbluff, where they were treated to competition between athletes in Class B, C, and D (all together). Hemingford Junior Kelsy Wood was able to win three of her events, the long jump (16’7”), the 100 High Hurdles (15.48); and the 300 low hurdles (45.94) Both hurdle times were new school records. Wood also ran a good (13.02) to place third in the open 100. She was named the 2012 Outstanding Female Athlete in the meet! Kaitlyn Jespersen, who is rapidly becoming a solid triple jumper, went (32’4”) to place fourth, and Ethan Skinner placed sixth in the long jump, going (19’5”) Congratulations to all three student-athletes for representing Hemingford so well!

Panhandle Conference Meet in Chadron – April 28              

Girls Champions ! /  Boys Champions !

Gold was the color of choice for both high school teams as the girls and the boys joined their Hemingford Junior High Counterparts in winning PAC Conference Track and Field Championships at a damp and chilly Chadron High School Track.  The girls took first with (157) points, followed by Runner-Up Hay Springs with (101); Third place Edgemont with (92), fourth place Crawford with (89) and Sioux County with (10). The Boys team won with (161) points, followed by second place Hay Springs with (107), third place Crawford with (85), fourth place Sioux County with (56), and Edgemont with (43)

Ethan Skinner won three gold medals and a fourth place in the long jump. Skinner won the 100, the 200, and was a member of the champion 4 x 100 relay team, (46.7) along with Colt Foster, Brady Turek, and Cash Weber. The 4 x 400 relay also won (4:34.6) with members Trevor Benge, Asa Carlson, Joseph Rozmiarek, and Wyatt Stricker. Kyle Kaman was the conference 800 champ, winning in a (2:15.3) time. He placed second in the 1600 as did Brady Turek in the 400 (55.9) , and Matthew Mayer in the 3200 (12:16.8)

The girls won six events, including the 100, 100 Hurdles, 300 Hurdles , and Long Jump by Kelsy Wood, and the 200 and triple Jump by Kaitlyn Jespersen, Jespersen also third in the long jump and second in the high jump. Kaelia Nelson was second in the 400 and third in the 1600. Katie Heitz was third in the Triple Jump and fourth in the long jump and high jump. Precious Campbell was third in the 100 highs and fourth in the 300 lows; Aubrey Picket Pin was fifth in the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles and was fourth in the 100. Hemingford brought home runner-up finishes in all three relays, the 4 x 100, the 4 x 400, and the 4 x 800. Paige Phillips took third in the shot  and Jayleen Forgey was runner-up in the 3200.

Bayard Invite – April 3, 2012                                                             

Girls Sixth / Boys Ninth

Hemingford got off to a decent start with 6th place Girls and 9th place Boys finish at Bayard. Brooke Galles placed second in the 100 and third in the 200; She, Madi Hiemstra, Carli Cullan, and Faith Rohrbouck placed second in the 4 x 100 relay; Rohrbouck also placed  fourth in the 200 and Natailie Gasseling placed sixth in the 1200; The two longer relays placed as well, with the 4 x 200 placing third, and the 4 x 400 placing sixth.

The Junior High Boys had a champion in the 200 Hurdles as Jacob Horstman ran a 26.1; Cody Laursen was third in the 75 Hurdles and third in the triple jump; Jamey Wood took fifth in the triple jump, and Jason Randolph took sixth in the 1200. The boys also placed sixth in the 4 x 100 relay; sixth in the 4 X 200 relay; and sixth in the 4 x 400 relay.

Gordon-Rushville Invite – April 13 , 2012                                

Girls Runner- Ups / Boys Champions !

Hemingford’s Junior High Boys won the Championship at Gordon, defeating teams from Chadron, Gordon-Rushville, Crawford, Hay Springs, Cody-Kilgore, Bennett County, and Loneman. The HJH Girls finished as team runner-up in the eight man field, right behind Chadron. Individual winners included: Madi Hiemstra in the 100 and in the High Jump; Jacob Horstman in the 100 and in the 200 Hurdles; and Cody Larson in the Triple Jump. Horstman broke the standing record in the hurdles help by former HHS star Chase Engel.

Kimball Invite – April 19 , 2012

Panhandle Conference Meet in Chadron – April 28               

Girls Champions ! / Boys Champions !  

Both Junior High teams joined their High School Counterparts in winning Championships in Chadron on a rainy, delay-filled meet. The Girls outscored the field with (161.7) points, with St. Agnes trailing with (113). Third was Crawford (80.3), fourth was Hay Springs (48), fifth was Edgemont (21) , and sixth was Sioux County (6) . The Boys scored (179), followed by St. Agnes with (96), Hay Springs and Edgemont tied for third and fourth with (51); Crawford in fifth with (49.5), and Sioux County in sixth with ( 5.5)

Individual Championships went to Madi Hiemstra in the 100, the 200, and the long jump; Natalie Gasseling in the 800 and 1600; Kaitlyn Kumpf in the 55 High Hurdles; Emily Hansen in the Shot Put, and Brooke Galles in the 200 Low Hurdles. Runner-up finishes went to Carli Cullan in the 400 and the 800, and the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relay teams.

In the Junior High Boys division, Jacob Horstman went to town with four individual gold medals! Horstman won the 100, the 200, the 200 Low Hurdles, and tied for first in the high jump! Jason Randolph won the 1600, with Austin Huddle taking second and Devon Hanson taking third in a distance sweep, another HJH sweep occurred in the 75 High Hurdles as Cody Larsen was the champion, followed in second by Jamey Wood and third by Austin Wobig! Toby Phillips chipped in with a second in the 800, and Hemingford took both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays. Championship members on the short relay were Cooper Weber, Austin Wobig, Tanner Benge, and Jason Randolph; on the long relay, championship members were Moses Ash, Jason Randolph, Tarin Jespersen, and Toby Phillips. Laursen also took second in the triple jump for Hemingford
