The Lady Cats rebounded after a first set loss to earn their first win of the season , 2-1 over Minatare.

Last Thursday we traveled to Edgemont South Dakota.  We lost in 3 sets.  The scores were 12-25, 22-25, and 9-25.  As a team the girls did really well back at the serving line.  We had a 96% as a team.  Davina Berg lead in service points with 6 total.  This was a positive thing for us as our serves have been inconsistent.  Kelsy Wood lead in blocks at the net while Katie Heitz lead in kills.  Our defense is coming together along with our serves, but we still need to be more aggressive at the net.

This last weekend we hosted the Hemingford Invite.  We played Minitare the first game of the tournament.  The girls were not prepared for the first set.  Once they realized they needed to step up their game it was too late.  However the girls put that set behind them and came back winning the next two sets for our first win of the season.  The scores were 20-25, 25-18, and 25-11.  Cali Rohrbouck did an amazing job back at the serving line.  She served 15 serves in a row for us, scoring a total of 14 points as the high scorer in this game.  Kaitlyn Jespersen lead with 8 kills.  Jayleen Forgey had 7 assists.

Our second game was against Hyannis.  Although this game went down as a loss for us in the score books, the girls played their best game ever.  We have had to overcome a challenge of working together as a team no matter who is out there on the court and the girls were doing just that!  It was exciting to see everything come together as the girls were communicating well, keeping each other motivated, and playing their role on the court.

We won the first set 25-19.  The second set was a close one.  The girls continued to play well.  Our defense is what kept us alive.  The girls were going for everything and backing each other up.  However we fell short, 24-26.  Going into the third set the girls were getting tired.  We have played 3 sets in other games, but there was so much movement and longer rallies in this game that we weren’t use to.  12-25 was the score to the final set.

Kaitlyn Bergfield, Katie Heitz, and Kaitlyn Jespersen did well in the back row defensively.  Paige Phillips and Katie Heitz lead in kills with 5 a piece.  Kelsy Wood lead in ace blocks.  Paige Phillips lead in service points with 9 followed by Kaitlyn Jespersen and Katie Heitz earning 6 points a piece.  The girls are continuing to improve each week and coming together more as a team.

This week we will go to Banner Co. on Thursday and then travel to Mitchell for the Mitchell Invite on Saturday.
