Cats Medal at State Wrestling !
Jespersen and Campos go out in Style !
The Hemingford Bobcats had a great 2011 State Wrestling Tourney at the Qwest Center in Omaha, finishing with two State Medalists for Coach Chris Weber and assistant Matt Honstein.
Hemingford qualified Aaron Jespersen at 125 pounds, and Jose Campos at 135 pounds, both seniors, both District Champions, both 100 career match winners, and both four year State Tourney qualifiers. Campos also placed fourth as a junior in 2010.
In the first round in Omaha, Jespersen pinned Evan Kranda of David City Aquinas in 3:31, while Campos stuck Tanner Matthews of Fullerton in 3:00.
Quarter Final, or second round action saw Jespersen lose a tough match to Issac Elge of Nebraska Christian, by a single point, 7-8. Elge won all four of his matches in winning the 125 pound Championship. Campos won his quarter final match against Shane Keasling of Harvard by a (4-0) decision.
In his third round consolation match, Aaron Jespersen rebounde d with a 9-3 decision over Jordan Shields of Amherst, while Jose Campos dropped a close match to eventual 135 pound Champion Dillon Glause of Palmer, 4-2. Glause had a record of 51-2 this year.
At 125, Jespersen next faced 39-6 Tyler Olsen of Palmyra, winning a 5-3 decision. Campos came back with a win by default over Trevor Sutherland. Jose was leading 3-1 when both wrestlers cracked heads while both were shooting for a takedown.
Jespersen next won a match against Jeremy Interlied, a 42-4 wrestler from Dorchester, with a 5-2 decision.
With both Bobcat wrestlers in the Consolation Finals at the Nebraska State Wrestling Championships, Jesperson finished fourth while losing by a fall to Carter Tegeler of Elkhorn Valley, while Campos held on to beat Nick Roberts of Malcolm3-2 to finish third.
Aaron Jespersen finished his Senior year with a 34-8 won loss record, while Jose Campos finished with a 43-5 record. Both Bobcat wrestlers won matches against medalists from last year and this year, while falling by one point and two points respectively to State Champions in this year’s tourney.
Thanks to the fans, the parents, the entire team at Hemingford, and to Kyle Walker, who helped all year keeping statistics and helping coach. 2011 was a GREAT wrestling season for Hemingford!
