Lady Cats Complete Season
Girls Basketball Season 2008-2009
Our season was satisfying in so many ways. First and foremost for our players and coaches, were the relationships that will be long-lasting, and in some cases life-long. This was a really nice group of players to work with both on the practice floor and during games. After our games at sub-district in Gering the tournament director expressed what a class act our team and fans were. That should be extremely gratifying for all our school, and the Hemingford community at large.
We had seven ballgames that were very closely contested losses. Each and every one of them turned on just a few plays or trips to the foul line. In another year we may have gotten those plays to go a different way. In the final analysis, our team was very close to putting a significant number of wins on the board. There will be a nice group of letter winners and supporting cast returning to the gym next year that will give all of us ample reason to be excited about the upcoming season.
Individually we had some players reach some notable plateaus. In a game during Christmas Holiday Tournament we had three girls all score above 20 points. Ashley Yardley scored 725 points and grabbed 342 rebounds for her career. Brooke Hannaford has collected 382 rebounds and scored just over 500 points for her career so far. And as many people know, Shelby Campbell has scored over 1000 points for her career. Actually, after all the stats were compiled and double checked, she broke the school scoring record for a career with 1,133 points. In addition to that she grabbed 480 rebounds and picked up 348 steals during her four years as a Lady Bobcat. All four of our seniors will be sorely missed. Shelby, Ashley, Rachel Fletcher and Jodi Stangle made up a fine leadership team that all of us benefited from.
Our whole team and the coaching staff would once again like to thank our Hemingford Booster Club for helping us with our new varsity warm ups this year. The excellent fan base that our community has we warmly appreciate. Our parents from this team, for all of the good meals that they provided to the players after each game, and the administration and custodial staff for all of their support.
