Hemingford students along with students from South Dakota, Wyoming and other Nebraska schools attended High Plains Music Festival on 2-1 and 2-2. The festival has been held at Chadron State College the first Monday and Tuesday of February for a number of years. Students are selected by submitting a recorded audition.
Professors in the Music department at CSC spend hours listening recording and select performers for Women’s Choir, Mixed Choir, Festival Band and Honor Band.
H.H.S. had nine students selected.
Instrumentalists in the Honor Band auditioned for chair positions early Monday morning and Bethany Wacker was chosen for 1st chair clarinet. The groups rehearsed until concert hour. Chadron State musicians performed for High Plains participants and directors during the concert hours allowing students to see college performances not only gave them a break from rehearsal it allowed them to hear a free concert.
Aside from the concerts directors were given the opportunity to attend Reading Sessions of Choral and Instrumental Music as well as visiting exhibits and clinics.
High Plains participants dressed in their concert attire for the final performance. The student groups gave a concert at Memorial Hall Auditorium at 5:00 p.m. on 2-2 to showcase their musical pieces.
