Freshman Moses Ash capped a successful season at Districts, as well as Junior Wyatt Stricker. Both will be back next year, as well as injured team mates Trevor Benge, Tyler Huddle, and Mathew Sorensen. The Cats will also look forward to some incoming freshmen in 2013-2014.

SOUTHEAST DUALS - Yoder, Wyo - Sat, Feb. 2nd

RESULTS

Cooper Weber 106  (4-1) 21 Team points

Lee Jespersen 113   (5-0) 30 Team points
Moses Ash      220   (2-3) 12 Team points

Southeast is another tournament we look forward to every year. Even though it is a dual tournament we look at it as one more opportunity to get on the mat. We lost a couple guys to season ending injuries this week and are healing up some others trying to get ready for districts.

We took our three freshman wrestlers to Southeast and they did very well. Those of us with small rosters were combined with other teams. Our guys didn’t disappoint . Our first dual was against Hanna Elk Mountain Wyoming. All three of our wrestlers came out with wins. Moses was also able to pick up an exhibition match.

Dual 2 was against Alliance, again all thee came out on top in their matches. Dual 3 was with Burns Wyoming, Cooper won by fall, Lee won by fall and Moses lost by Dec. Dual 4 was against Saratoga Wyo. Jespersen won by fall and Weber and Ash lost by decision. Dual 5 Was against Banner County/Kemerer. Moses lost by fall, Weber won by forfeit, and Jespersen finished tough getting the sudden death win in four overtime periods.

It was a tough loss to us as a team with the injury season ending injuries to Huddle and Benge. We will be heading to Sutherland this Friday and Saturday for Districts with five wrestlers.

District Roster
106 Cooper Weber Fr. 12-15
113 Lee Jespersen Fr. 21-12
138 Cash Weber Sr. 8-3
145 Wyatt Stricker Jr. 1-14
220 Moses Ash Fr. 12-20

MITCHELL  INVITE  - Sat, Jan. 26th

The Cats wrestled tough, but a spate of injuries held out four of the remaining Cat wrestlers. Freshman Lee Jespersen, a scrappy 113 pounder, fought his way to a third place finish to lead the Bobcats. Other Cats that won matches included Cooper Weber, Trevor Benge, and Moses Ash. The Grapplers travel next to Yoder, Wyoming for the Southeast Duals on Saturday, February 2nd.

CHADRON INVITE - Chadron State College - Fri and Sat, Jan. 18-19

Hemingford Freshmen Wrestlers Cooper Weber, Lee Jespersen, and Moses Ash all wrestled late Friday evening into the fourth round of consolation wrestlebacks at CSC, but dropped their final matches of a full day that saw good wins by almost every Cat wrestler, but no placers in the demanding 26 team, 4-State event that ranks with a district or state meet. Tyler Huddle, and Trevor Benge also recorded wins at CSC

SANDHILLS INVITE - DUNNING     January 12, 2013

The Cats were not able to attend this year's meet at Dunning due to Winter Weather and bad roads. Next action will be at CSC for the annual Chadron Invite, featuring 26 teams from Wyoming, Colodaro, South Dakota, and Nebraska.

HAY SPRINGS DUAL II - Parent's Night (H) - January 10, 2013

It’s always exciting for the guys to get to wrestle at home. Hay Springs brings some good wrestlers and we were pleased with how our guys performed. Moses and Wyatt wrestled great matches with quality opponents. Tyler moved up in weight to get a match at 152 and wrestled tough getting the win.

Asa also took control early in his match at 182, getting the first period pin. We still have some guys out with injury so we are looking forward to them being able to come back. Thanks to our parents this year for their support, as well as everyone that came out to support us Thursday.

GARDEN COUNTY INVITE  at Oshkosh  - January 5th, 2013

With 20 teams Garden County continues to be a tournament we look forward to. We had to sit three of our guys out this weekend trying to heal up some injuries. Hopefully they can recover and get ready for this weeks dual with Hay Springs and the busy push into the post season.

WESTERN TRAILS  at Bridgeport  - December 20th, 2012

Cash was out at 145 with injury and Huddle did a great job moving down to fill the slot going 4-1 on the day. Lee also continues to do a good job for us at 113, coming out on top of some tough situations.

Some of our guys are on the mend from the flue and healing up some injuries. We are going to take advantage of the upcoming break to heal up and get ready for the second half of the season.

BRIDGEPORT INVITE - December 15th, 2012

Bridgeport was a good test for our wrestlers. With eight man scramble bracketing, it’s not only about the match win or loss but how it was won or lost. Many of our guys were able to medal because of how they finished some tough matches.

145 is always a tough class and Cash went 5-0. Many of them being district opponents. Trevor and Moses moved up in weight or wrestled in combined weight classes. Both wrestled well and were able to bring home medals, with Moses bringing home 1st place at 220.

We still have a couple of guys out with the flu and hopefully they will be able to recover and compete at the Western Trails Conference Tournament on Thursday.

BANNER COUNTY INVITE - December 8, 2012

We got a lot of good matches at Banner Co. Even though it’s early in the season we always have an eye on our district for the post season. We were able to pick up wins against district opponents which is always big. We also saw some of our younger wrestlers adjust well against some tough opponents.

HAY SPRINGS DUAL - December 6, 2012

The Hay Springs Dual is a good opportunity to get some mat time. We’ve been hit by the flu very hard this week with the majority of the team either out or recovering. This left us with a few open weights. Hopefully everyone can recover and get ready for the push into winter break.

CRAWFORD INVITE - November 30, 2012

Crawford is a good tournament. The competition was good and we felt like our wrestlers held their own. It’s always good to get the first tournament under our belt and build on it in the practice room.
