Mr. Collins' Bio

7th, 9th, and 10th Grade Social Studies

by Joe Collins

August 12, 2008

Hello there!  My name is Joe Collins.  Thank you for visiting my web page.  I am very excited to be in Hemingford.  This is my second year at good ol' HHS, I will be teaching 7th, 9th, and 10th grade Social Studies and coaching football and boy's basketball.

Now, a little bit about myself.  I spent my early childhood in Oxford, NE.  The summer after my freshman year at Southern Valley High School, my family moved to Hemingford as my father was going to be the Methodist minister here.  My time in Hemingford was a blessing and I loved nearly every second of it as I finished my high school education.  I was very active as I took part in band, jazz band, choir, swing choir, football, basketball, golf, and National Honors Society.  After graduating from Hemingford in 2003, I left for Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, NE.

At NWU, I majored in History with a 7-12 teaching certificate and a coaching endorsement.  After graduating from NWU, I taught Civics and American Government at Lincoln High School as a long-term substitute.  It was a great experience, one that I will never regret, but I found out that I would rather teach in a smaller school district where I would have the opportunity to build strong relationships with more students and the community.

I enjoy being outdoors in the summer and indoors in the winter.  I enjoy going for motorcycle rides with my friends, Jeff Hoover and D.J. Sulzbach, when I can and if the weather cooperates.  I like watching college football and playing NCAA Football on my Playstation.

I married Brittany Woods, my high school sweetheart of 7 years, on June 14, 2008.  She provides me with a lot of strength and courage as she is behind me in everything I do.  We went to Cocoa Beach, Florida for our honeymoon.  IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!!  We spent a couple days in Orlando, visiting Universal Studios and Sea World.  We also went parasailing!!  We now live in Alliance, close to Brittany's family.

Brittany and I have a cat named Penelope, but we just call her Pea.  We also received a puppy from Jake Long in September of 2008 and named her Winifred, but we just call her Fred.  Brittany and I like to be with her family, watch movies, cheer on the HUSKERS, and just relax with Pea and Fred at home.

My family (Michael, Dad, Me, Mom, and Sara)

My family is the most important thing in my life.  They are very supportive and would do anything to help me out.  My family now lives in Papillion, Nebraska where my father is the Associate Pastor at the Methodist church.  My sister, Sara, is still in Kentucky attending Kentucky Wesleyan College.  She is a Junior this year and is trying to hold on to that 4.0 she has earned her first two years in college!!  Good Job Sara!!  I am very proud of her.  Michael, my brother of 14 years, is a freshman at Papillion-La Vista South.  He is out for football and is enjoying every minute.  He is quite the kid and I love to spend time with him when I go to visit.  We like to play disc golf, basketball, and throw the pigskin around.
