Space Exploration

by Cindy Lanik

November 18, 2006

Hemingford Middle School students have recently begun a new science unit Exploring Space. They have been busy comparing the sizes of planets to their distance from the Sun using different sizes of balls to the relative size of our Sun, which is about the average size of a large classroom.

They also created a constellation from a box and then made planispheres to be able to view and find the constellations in our night sky.

Their explorations will take them to discover other components of the universe, such as, comets, asteroids, stages of a star, and many other interesting things about space.
