Mrs. Shaver's 7th Grade Read Write Think Class

by Sue Shaver

August 14, 2007

Welcome to the 7th Grade Read, Write, Think! Class

As your teacher, I am looking forward to the new school year, and excited about having you in our class. This year Read, Write, Think! will meet 1st period in the high school library for one semester, with half of all 7th grade students attending first semester and the other half attending second semester.

The main emphasis of our class will be on improving reading skills, comprehension and vocabulary building, with lessons on writing, research, test-taking strategies and critical thinking skills. We will spend time on information presented in the text, Reader's Handbook: a Student Guide for Reading and Learning, independent reading, Scholastic Scope magazine articles, study exercises, and journal responses.

Good reading skills are vital to your success in school. Studies show that regular reading practice improves comprehension and vocabulary development, strongly indicating the importance good reading skills have on your success in school.

It is my hope that all students through practice will sharpen their reading skills so they continue to grow as readers.

Let's have a great year!

Mrs. Shaver
