Mrs. Shaver's 7th Grade Read Write Think Class

by Sue Shaver

August 17, 2009

Welcome to the 7th Grade Read, Write, Think! Class

I am looking forward to the new school year and excited about having you in my class. Read, Write, Think! meets 1st period in the high school library with the class split and alternating days – red/white - with P.E.

We will begin the new school year by spending some time on organizing lockers and learning how to best use planners to help in keeping track of class assignments and improving study skills.

The main emphasis of our class will be on improving reading skills, comprehension and vocabulary, with lessons on writing, research, learning test-taking strategies and developing critical thinking skills.

We will spend time on information presented in the text, Reader's Handbook: a Student Guide for Reading and Learning, independent reading, Scholastic Scope magazine articles, study exercises, journal responses, and a variety of games and puzzles I'm sure you'll find fun while being educational.

ComputerI am also creating a class web site that will include online reading, test-taking, and journal writing. The link to this web page is Read Write Think

Book 2

Good reading skills are vital to your success in school. Studies show that regular reading practice improves comprehension and vocabulary development, strongly indicating the importance good reading skills have on your success in school.

It is my hope that all students through practice will sharpen their reading skills so they continue to grow as readers.

Let's have a great year!

Mrs. Shaver
