A New Social Studies Bio

by Kim Naden

August 13, 2007

As one of the new social studies teachers at Hemingford, I enjoy the subject of social studies.   This is my 25th year of being a teacher.

A native of Franklin, NE, educationally,  I graduated from Doane College (1971), and received my MA degree from Kearney State College (Univ. of Nebraska-Kearney).

Schools I have taught social studies at include Rosalie, Bancroft-Rosalie, and Clay Center.

My wife and I have two grown children.   Our married son graduated from Milford Vocational School and is a mechanic in Grand Island, and our married daughter graduated from Central Community College (Hastings) and is employed by Head Start in Hastings.   Her family includes our three-year old grandson.

As a student and educator, I have been fortunate enough to have been able to travel to a number of countries in Europe, as well as southeastern Pacific countries of Thailand and Cambodia during the summer of 2006.   My travels have broadened my abilities as a teacher in the subjects of World Geography, World History, American History and  American Government, Sociology, and Economics.

Some of my interests include researching history, which includes the Oregon Trail.   It has been some years since I have been in the nearby Oregon Trail area, but I have always enjoyed being in the wide-open spaces of the Panhandle   I also enjoy reading, and working on my Queen Anne style home (1905) that used to belong to my grandparents in Franklin.

I am looking forward to teaching social studies at Hemingford.
