Nebraska Kids Fitness and Nutrition Day
September 27, 2016 was a fun day to be a third grader in Box Butte County! The ninth annual Nebraska Kids Fitness and Nutrition Day was held at the Alliance YMCA. Both third grade classes from Hemingford boarded a bus first thing in the morning and headed to the YMCA bringing the total student participation to about 200. After arriving at the gym the students had a quick warm up and then were divided into individual nutrition educational stations and physical activity stations. Some of the educational stations were label logic, portion control, healthy snacking, handwashing, and my plate. The physical activity stations included zumba dancing, karate, yoga, recycling, boot camp, stretch bands, and also intro to pound fit.
Some of the favorite stations for the students were karate, pound fit, and boot camp. The day was filled with fun educational activities. Students learned how to read food labels and understand portion control. They were taught the importance of healthy snacks and activity levels to balance healthy lifestyles. The Nebraska Beef Council helped sponsor a delicious lunch from Arby's. The students really enjoyed the day and look forward to putting their knowledge to work.
A big thanks to the Panhandle Public Health team for making this day possible.
