Cats Keep on Keepin' On
Third Round State Game at Fullerton on Tuesday the 11th
Hemingford scored twice in the second half, and held Blue Hill to a single touchdown to hold on for a wild 12-6 win in the second round of the Nebraska State Football Playoffs in Hemingford.
Time and time again the Cat defense was called upon to stop Blue Hill deep in Hemingford territory.
Blue Hill's team was a steep increase of talent and size from the nine previous teams the Cats had competed against this season, but HHS players got back up after every play ready to go again, covered with sweat and mud, showing that in the end, they were the better team.
An overflow crowd on both sides kept the players pumped up for the four- quarter knock- down fight to the finish.
The defense was led by Mathew Davis, Denton Payne, Colt Foster, Jamey Wood, Brady Turek, and Ethan Skinner. Matthew Wood also excelled on "D", but showed some great moves on offense as well, along with solid efforts by Turek, Skinner, and Tanner Benge, who led blocking against some fast, big Blue Bobcats.HHS scored on a 58 yard pass play from Matthew Wood to Colt Foster, and a two yard Quarterback keeper from Wood for the eventual game-winner.
The last minute drive by Blue Hill, aided by some good plays and some penalty yards kept everyone on both sides of the field on their feet. After Blue Hills last gasp pass fell incomplete in the HHS end zone, the HCats ran the clock out for the 12-6 victory.
Next Tuesday, November 11th at 2PM Central Time, Hemingford will be on the road for the third round game, at undefeated Fullerton (10-0) Thanks to all of the great fans we have, and to their loud support! with this win, Hemingford moves to (10-0) on the season!
