2014 State FCCLA Conference Concludes
Hemingford Students Excel !
Ten FCCLA members attended the 2014 State Leadership Conference in Lincoln on April 6-8, 2014. Members participated in STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) competitions, ran for state peer teams and also attended leadership sessions.
The keynote speaker was Grant Baldwin who is a motivational speaker who spoke to students about making a difference and preparing for life after high school. He is an author of the book and curriculum “Reality Check” as well.
Hemingford students also competed for the chance to become a state Peer education officer. Taylee Neefe ran for the Student Body team, Mikayla Randolph ran for the Financial Fitness team and Allie Mekolon ran for the Families First team. These students were required to complete an application, take a test on their peer education team, present a 3 minute presentation on a topic in their peer education team, and complete an interview. While the girls were not chosen to serve on a peer education team, all three girls plan to run for a peer or state office next year.
While at state the following Hemingford students received the following awards: Mikayla Randolph and Taylee Neefe received a Silver in National programs in action, Allie Mekolon and Carli Cullan received a Gold in Focus on Children, Cali Rohrbouck received a Silver and state champion honor in Knife Skills, Paige Phillips received a Gold and 5th placing in Job Interview, Cooper Weber, Tyler Huddle and Sally Green received a Bronze in Culinary Arts. Hemingford FCCLA chapter also received a Silver STAR chapter award for their year long achievements.
