Homecoming 2012 at Hemingford High School will be next week, September 10-14th. The HHS Student Council will be again sponsoring the activity filled week, along with cooperation from the secondary classes and the Bobcat Boosters. The schedule is listed below, as well as detailed information for class-members and parents.

Patrons, family members, alumni, and other Bobcats are invited to take part in the activities, or to view and enjoy them.

Athletic events that will be held during 2012 Homecoming include:

Cross Country - Saturday, September 15th at the Alliance Invitational

Volleyball - A busy week, with matches on the 11th in Hemingford with Kimball and Gordon-Rushville in a varsity triangular starting at 5PM; a home match with Edgemont on Thgursday, September 13th, beginning at 6PM, and finally a Saturday tourney in Hemingford, with Hyannis, Hay Springs, Crawford, Minatare, and Sioux County on September 15th!

Football - The Cats entertain long-ago rival Hay Springs on Friday, September 14th at 7PM. The Homecoming dance will follow the Football game.

Spirit Week Schedule

Monday:

Dress-up day will be Gender Switch Day or Fake an Injury Day

After the JV home football game and volleyball game at approximately 7:45 PM, there will be the annual burning of the “H”, and car smashing!  Out of respect for those that have suffered losses from wildfires and due to the severe drought, there will NOT be a bonfire this year…

Tuesday:

Dress-up day will be Hillbilly or Cool Shades Day

Students are encouraged to wear their hillbilly costumes to support the volleyball players at their home triangular game!

During 6th period lockers and sponsors doors will be decorated along with a banner that will be hung above the lockers. This can be used on the parade float.

Wednesday:

Dress-up day will be Battle of the Bands or Crazy Hair Day

Battle of the Bands is a new one that is incorporated to fit the overall theme.  Students and teachers may dress like their favorite band member or singer.  Grab a group of friends and get really decked out!!

Coronation will once again be held in the gymnasium starting at 1:30.  Candidates will be released early to get ready and all volleyball, football, and cross country athletes will be released at 1:15 to form a human tunnel.  The elementary is once again invited as well as the public.  Olympic Game Day will be following coronation at approximately 2:00 and run until 3:10ish.

Thursday:

Dress-up day will be Salad Dressing or Crazy Hat Day

Salad dressing day is a returner from last year!  For example, if your favorite dressing is Ranch then you can dress up as a cowboy.  If your favorite is 1000 Island then you can dress up as an island person such as Hawaiian.  If your favorite is Dorothy, then dress up as one of the Wizard of Oz characters.  If your favorite is Ceaser, than wear a toga that day.  I am sure there are many others, just be creative!!

Students this day are also encouraged to support the volleyball players while being dressed in “railroad” gear as they take on the Edgemont Moguls.

There will be a sweet treat given to all at the end of the day on Thursday.  Senior Stucco officers will be released at 3:00 and hand out treats starting with bus riders.

Friday:

Dress up day is, of course, SPIRIT DAY!!

Friday’s schedule is still in the making but it will include:  float decorating for approx. 1 ½ to 2 hrs.  then lots of fun outdoor games, followed by a barbeque!  Then the parade, pep rally, and float disassemble!  BY THE WAY, we would love to use some of your bigger items off of your float to use for decorations at the dance!!  Football game at 7:00.  Dance from 8:30-11:30.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Competition Throughout the Week:
Grand Prize is: The coveted spirit stick!

Winner will be announced at the pep rally on Friday.

  1. Dress Up Days: Based on a percentage of students who are dressed up within the theme for that day. If a student is dressed up, but does not fit the theme, he/she does not count..
  2.  Highest %= 40 points, then 30, 20, 10, 5, 5.
    • There are 2 choices of how to dress up for each day.  One is more “dressy” than the other on.  The kids that go all out will receive 2 pts.  The other way is 1 pt.  Not dressing up at all is of course 0.
    • Sponsors that dress up with their class will count as 2 votes!!  J
    • We would like to encourage dressing up for all day.  To eliminate students just dressing up for 1st period, receiving their votes, and then changing….we would like ALL teachers to keep a tally of who was dressed up in their class period.  We will then have a respectable person draw a random number 1-7 out of a hat and that is the class period we will take votes on.  We will leave it to chance!
    • Teachers please just keep a tally on your attendance sheets.  I will pick these up every day during 7th period just after you take roll.  Thanks so much!
  1. Locker Decorating:
  • Each student will have their locker to decorate.
  • Each class will decorate their class sponsors’ doors as well.
  • Each class will create a banner to be hung above the class’ lockers.
    • Seniors hang banner on wall by lockers 109-121 and above
    • Juniors hang banner on wall above lockers 33-47
    • Sophomores hang banner above lockers 73-100
    • Freshmen hang banner above lockers 101-108 and on wall by door
    • 8th graders hang banner above lockers 112-141
    • 7th graders hang banner above lockers 142-151
  • Decorating must be completed by Tuesday of homecoming week in the time allowed.  This means no decorating before school, during lunch, or after school!! Lockers will be judged at 3:30.
  • Rules:
  • Must match the theme of the float
  • Please no super tape that will take off the paint.
  • First place 40 points, then 30, 20, 10, 5, 5.
  • Three VOLUNTEER judges will be checking out the lockers at 3:30
  1. Olympics on Wednesday: Placing for each game- First place 40 points, then 30, 20, 10, 5, 5. More information to come on Olympics.
  2. Floats for Parade on Friday: First place 40 points, then 30, 20, 10, 5, 5.
  • Floats can be started off of school property with a class sponsor present.
  • Time will be given on Friday morning to work on floats.
  • Make sure that after the pep rally floats are disassembled.  Please remember to take your larger, cool float items to the little gym to be used for decorations at the dance!!  Thanks.
