2nd Place Trophy

March 30, 2012

The 7th and 8th grade quiz bowl team competed in the first annual Chadron Middle School Tournament and did exceptionally well. The schools competing were Chadron, Gering, Mitchell, Hay Springs, Crawford, Gordon, Banner Co., Bridgeport, and Hemingford.

The 8th graders going into the third round were 3rd. Hemingford had a very good third round and scored 130 points. To reach the finals Gering or Chadron had to score 110 points or less. When they finished their round we were camped outside the door waiting to see what their scores were. We made it to the finals! Chadron scored 80 points and Gering 110. In the Championship round the game was tied at the end of the first 8 questions, then just five points difference in the second eight, third eight questions we 10 points behind. Final round, we were not lucky in our draw of questions and Gering beat us. The team members were Devan Hanson (captain), Robert Heule, Cooper Weber, Brittany Thomas, Abby Bright, Taeller Ansley, John Manning, Jason Randolph, Mathew Davis, Chase Lucas, Moses Ash, and Tim Finnell. Congratulations to all of you! Hemingford is proud of your 2nd place finish and proud of how you represent our school!

The 7th also did an awesome job with a third place finish. Going into the third round Hemingford needed to beat Mitchell by 15 points and unfortunately they didn’t make it into the finals. But the 7th graders had a very good experience and have a positive attitude for their next tournament. The team members were Peyton Sutphen (captain), Austin Wobig, Allie Mekolon, Natalie Gasseling, Carli Cullan, Jon Mayer, Jamie Wood, Kaitlyn Kumpf, Emily Hansen, Denton Payne, Taylee Neefe, and Sheyenne Weaver. Congratulations for your 3rd place finish! We are proud of you and how you represent Hemingford!
