Go Cats !

The 2011-2012 Basketball season is Complete :(

November - Congratulations to the Junior High Girls - Panhandle Activities Conference Champions with a perfect season record of (9-0) ! The Girls Second (White) Team also had an outstanding season, finishing (8-1) !

December - The Girls beat Banner County and Garden County before dropping a close one to Bridgeport, and finished 2nd at the Bridgeport Tourney. The boys had a memorable experience in Rapid City before beating Banner County and Bridgeport to repeat as Bridgeport Tourney Champions (47-44). The Cats currently sit in fourth place in state C-2 rankings!

Early January - The Boys dropped a defensive slugfest to Bayard (30-34) but beat Sioux County; while the Girls beat Bayard and then Sioux County in OT (56-55) !

Late January - PAC Conference Results: The girls beat Hay Springs in the semis at Sioux County, and then lost a tight one to (7-1) Edgemont by four (59-63); The Boys were conference champs for the second year in a row, beating Hay Springs in the Semis (58-21), and then beating Crawford for First Place, (67-28) The Girls gained revenge against Edgemont, beating them in South Dakota (68-31), just a few days after their first meeting. The girls also beat Minatare, but lost to Mitchell in the first round of WTC, after squandering a 15 point first half lead. The boys beat Edgemont and Minatare to go to 12-2 on the season

Early February - Doggone it all! The boys were seeded first in the WTC Tourney, but dropped two in a row to finish a disappointing 4th place. The Cats lost a last minute match to Rushville-Gordon (60-62) in the semi-finals, and then were a step too slow in the game for third place, losing to Bridgeport (42-50). The Cats were (3-0) against the two teams this season before the two tough losses.

Losses to Kimball by both teams, and a loss to Morrill by the girls didn't bode well for a good season finish, but the boys rebounded to beat Morrill in the regular season match-up, and The Lady Cats gained revenge by upsetting the lady Lions in the semis at Gering in sub-districts! The finals saw Perkins County hang on for a (50-57) win over the Lady Cats, but the red and white finished with their 2nd winning season in a row, at (12-9) GREAT season Ladies!

Mid - February, End of the Season Games

The boys finished off the regular season by beating Crawford, and entered Sub-Districts as the Number one seed, but dropped their first game at Gering to Perkins County, (58-66) a good team. The young cats had too many turnovers and too few made free-throws to earn a win and finish (14-6). With some hard work in the off-season, this year's disappointment could spur next year's success. Go Cats!

All Conference Picks -

Western Trails Girls All-Conference Girls Basketball Team: First Team, Kelsy Wood; HM All Conf. - Katie Heitz and Sammy Huss.
