Cats and Lady Cats Over Crawford
Girls Hold on Down the Stretch, Boys come back from 17-0 deficit!

With the Lady Cats setting the "never say die" tone for the night, and the Boys eventually taking the lid off the basket in the middle of the second quarter of their games with Crawford, both teams took hard-fought wins over the visiting Rams.
For Hemingford Girls Coach Dave Chatelain, the 56-53 back and forth three point win gave them a 2-1 record on the young season. Both victories have come over PAC Conference opponents, with games down in the Valley with WTC teams on tap for the next two weeks The Lady Cats and the Lady Rams were tied throughout the game, or within just a few points, allowing the fans to get their money's worth! With nearly four minutes left in the game, two starters had fouled out, and Amanda Winten's hustle had sent her into the south wall, giving the whole team an opportunity to earn the tough win.
Boys Coach Tim Lanik saw his troops fall behind 17-0 as the visiting Rams were able to drop their shots in, while the Cats were as chilly as last weeks temperatures, not able to make a field goal or free throw through the entire first quarter and almost two minutes of the second. Eventually a ball-hawking press, and some good passing allowed the boys to pull even at half, and to win by 19 64-45 at game's end. The Boys are also 2-1, with a steeper road ahead during the remainder of Hemingford's pre-Christmas schedule.
Ryan Dannar was brought down from behind by a Ram defender on a break-away lay-up, losing part of a tooth to the unforgiving tile, as the girls and boys each played aggressively. In both games, Hemingford's quickness and hustle down the floor (and on the floor) helped to offset rebounding disadvantages. There seemed to be a better, more natural flow to both games, an improvement over last week's first games with Kimball. The Crawford game was moved from this coming Friday to Tuesday night to allow Crawford to compete with full teams, as they will be competing at State One Act Play Contest on Friday. Good Luck to them at State!
