Curriculum Objectives

This is just a quick outline of our curriculum objectives that the students learn in the different content areas.

Reading - students are beginning to read for comprehension. They are finding the beginning, middle, and end of a story. The students are identifying the elements of a story (characters, setting, problem, solution). Students are beginning to work on expression and fluency when they read. These skills are taught and practiced during shared reading and guided reading.

Writing - Students are working on writing a complete sentence, using a capital letter to start a sentence, space between their words, and punctuation at the end of a sentence. They are writing on lined paper attaining to the head line, the mid line and the base line when forming letters. Last they are writing stories that contain 3-5 sentences focusing on conventions, voice and idea from the 6-Trait Writing Model.

Math -  Addition and subtraction facts to 18, writing and reading numbers to 100, skip counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's, counting coins with values up to 100 cents, and reading/making graphs.

Phonics - Decoding words, identifying the beginning, middle, and end sounds of a word, segmenting and blending words.

Science/Social Studies - This is our theme studies where we explore apples, Johnny Appleseed, penguins, Mexico, soil, leaves just to name a few.
