Student and Faculty Highlights of the Year

Student Council Highlights- The Student Council made the school ice cream sandwiches for the first day of school. They also put on their own Hemingford edition of Deal or No Deal during Homecoming Week.

Music Department- The Choir performed Carol of the Bells, A Cold in My Nose, Children, Go Tell It, Ready, Set, Snow, and, “And This Shall Be for Music”.

Next up was a vocal quartet of eighth graders, Taylor Michael, Jayleen Forgey, Cassie Elder, and Kristina Kramer. They did a great job with Sing We Now of Christmas.
The Show Choir showed off their choreography skills as well as their singing skills with Jingle Bells Rock.


A woodwind Duet, featuring Samantha Huss and Kaitlyn Jespersen performed Palapan, a beautiful French selection.
The evening finished with the Junior-Senior High School Band, again under the direction of Mrs. Chesley. They played Twelve Days of Christmas, On A Cold Winter’s Night, Housetop Variations, and A Christmas Proclamation, featuring senior Michael Bergfield.


As the many parents, grandparents, family and school staff will attest, the evening was rich with good music and great performances. Mrs. Chesley is to be commended.
Drama and One Acts- Directors Tabi Bryner and Kelly Thompson, assisted by Irene Prochazka, performed Romeo and Beatrice and Toto, Too in the fall of 2007 for One Act. They placed first out of four at the Panhandle Conference competition, and third out of seven at Western Trails Conference. In the spring of 2008, the Drama Dept. performed two plays rather than one ; Fit to Be Tied, which consisted of only eight seniors, and Cinderella in New York, which consisted of students from all grades (7-11). Both were performed for the dinner theatre and were a success.
Football- The record for this year was 1-7. This was Head Coach Patrick Robinsons first year as coach. Seniors include Brody Roes, Trace Armstrong, Kevin Bradt, Kyle Huss, and Steven Overshiner.
Volleyball- This year’s volleyball record was an impressive one, 15-13. Seniors included Allana Wacker, Whitney Morava, Katie Frahm, and Cassie Drake.
Cross Country- Senior Beau Hartman and Freshman Baily Wood qualified for State during the 2008 season. Both boys and girls teams improved greatly through the year. Seniors included Beau Hartman, Taylor Jespersen, and Todd Prochazka.
Girls Basketball- A decent year in basketball history; 7-20. Seniors included Cassie Crake, Whitney Morava, and Katie Frahm.
Boys Basketball- This year’s Basketball record was a pretty good one, 7-14. This was Coach Tim Lanik’s last year as the head coach. He coached for 28 years. Seniors included Beau Hartman, Brody Roes, Kevin Bradt, Todd Prochazka, Taylor Jespersen, and Trace Armstrong.
Wrestling- Seniors: Steven Overshiner- 37-9, Adam Jensen- 10-19, Dustin Johannes- 10-10. Juniors: Michael Bergfield- 21-8, Joe Bob Haas- 42-2, Bryan Rathburn- 5-18. Sophomores: Cole Vela- 6-9. Freshmen: Aaron Jespersen- 17-20, Jose Campos- 25-15, Brandon Roland- 7-20.
Girls Track and Field- The Lady Cat track team placed third at Panhandle Conference this year. Junior Shelby Campbell and freshman Baily Wood also qualified for State.
Boys Track and Field- Senior Brody Roes placed second at the District Track Meet, earning a trip to the State Meet in Omaha. He threw 112’ 6”, earning him 22nd place. Seniors include Brody Roes, Steven Overshiner, Todd Prochazka, and Beau Hartman.
Golf- Coached by Brad Olson and Patrick Robinson, the 2008 golf team had a lot of standouts, including Beau Broadway, Tyler Swanson, and Adam Jensen. Seniors include Beau Broadway, Adam Jensen, Dalton Hunger, and August Darveau.
Clubs and Activities- FFA- This year, the Hemingford FFA Chapter had a silent auction, selling their members to bidders to do odd jobs for them. They also held their yearly petting zoo for all the little kids in the Elementary School.
FCCLA- Twelve of the FCCLA member were invited to go to State FCCLA. Two new officers were elected: Kelly Marie and Shaylea Hinojosa. The sponsor was Mrs. Neefe.
