2013-14 Family and Consumer Sciences classes
2013-14 Family and Consumer Sciences
Family and Consumer Sciences classes offered this year at Hemingford Public schools include Foods I and Foods II at the high school level, 8th grade Life skills and 7th and 8th grade Living arts. The following are some events that will be happening in the FCS classroom.
Nutrition Challenge:
The Family and Consumer Sciences classes will again take part in a Nutrition Challenge in which they will participate in a 6-week challenge to improve their nutrition and fitness. This would be an excellent opportunity for parents to talk to their teens about making healthy choices.
FCCLA in the Classroom:
The FCS classes will continue to incorporate FCCLA projects. Life Skills students will have the opportunity to complete a Power of 1, Foods students will complete a nutrition or sports nutrition STAR event . All FCS classes will be learning about FCCLA including the planning process and will be doing some community service projects. Any ideas for community service projects are welcome. Students are given the opportunity to become involved at the local, district, state, and even national levels, their choice! We may even have local competitions! Call if you would be interested in being a guest judge.
Chef of the Day!
Do you love to cook and would love teaching kids how to make your special dish? Come volunteer to be a chef of the day! All areas and culture cooking are welcome! Call me if you are interested!
Prostart: Foods II students will be participating in the Prostart competition again this year! Prostart is a cooking competition from the National Restaurant Association! Students will have the option between competing in an individual or a group culinary event. Group events include Culinary or Management and individual events include cake decorating, food art and knife skills. They will also have the opportunity to compete in the Culinary STAR event in FCCLA STAR.
Guest speakers, etc…
Do you work in an area that you think would be beneficial to FCS classes? Would you have time to come share your expertise?! If you are interested in volunteering to speak in front of the class, call me at:
