Family and Consumer Sciences classes offered at Hemingford Public schools include Foods I, Foods II, FCS4 (a combination of foods, interior design, clothing and child development), 8th grade Life skills and 7th and 8th grade Living arts.  The following are some events that will be happening in the FCS classroom.

Nutrition Challenge:

The Family and Consumer Sciences classes will again take part in a Nutrition Challenge in which they will participate in a 6-week challenge to improve their nutrition and fitness.  This would be an excellent opportunity for parents to talk to their teens about making healthy choices.

Technology in the classroom:

The FCS classes will be using more technology again this year.  Foods I. class will create a blabberize on an assigned vitamin.  Students will also learn how to use Prezi at prezi.com and additional online tools that motivate and increase their learning.

FCCLA in the Classroom:

The FCS classes will continue to incorporate FCCLA projects.  Life Skills students will complete a Power of 1, FCS4 students will be challenged to complete and compete in a STAR project.  All FCS classes will  be doing some community service projects.  Any ideas for community service projects are welcome.  Students are given the opportunity to become involved at the local, district, state, and even national levels, their choice!  We will even have local competitions!  Call if you would be interested in being a guest judge.

Chef of the Day!

Do you love to cook and would love teaching kids how to make your special dish?  Come volunteer to be a chef of the day!  All areas and culture cooking are welcome!  Call me if you are interested!

Guest speakers, etc…

Do you work in an area that you think would be beneficial to FCS classes?  Would you have time to come share your expertise?  !   If you are interested in volunteering to speak in front of the class, call me at:
