On Monday, September 28th, the fifth grade class traveled to the Ash Hollow State Park near Lewellen for our field trip.
Our first stop was at the sod house and then we trekked up to the top of Windlass Hill to see the view at the top of the bluffs, and imagine what it must have been like for the pioneers.
After lunch, we walked to the natural spring, and then up to the Visitor's Center to learn about how Ash Hollow was named and to see artifacts gathered from the area.
We then visited the Rock School House and headed to the Ash Hollow cemetery where Rachel Pattison was buried after dying along the trail. She died along the trail after taking ill in the morning at the age of 19.
