Grandparents Day Visit

On Monday, September 14th, the Hemingford fifth and sixth grade students walked to the Nutrition Center in the Fire Hall to visit with the members of the community there to eat lunch.
Before venturing out, they complied a list of questions to refer to if necessary to learn things about their "adopted" grandparent for the day. After their visit they served their grandparent lunch before departing back to the classroom.
Later that afternoon each group wrote a short article about their "grandparent" and what they learned from them.
Here are some of the articles from the students:
Today my group and I went to the Nutrition Center and visited some Senior Citizens. One of the grandparents that my group and I interviewed was Gene Delsing. Gene Delsing grew up in Hemingford, Nebraska. He went to both public and country school. He said school was fun.
He had nice teachers, but they were very strict. His favorite school subjects were science and math. When Gene got into High School he played football.
Gene does not have any grandchildren. He does have one brother named Bob Delsing. He also has three sisters, two of them are Mrs. Folkerts and Mrs. Engel.
Gene's favorite holiday is Christmas.
One thing that he is proud of is that he served as a veteran.
I wish my group and I had more time to get to know more about Gene Delsing. We had a Great time.

Article 2
During our interview with our grandparent at the nutrition center we learned a lot of interesting things. Dot Meredith was a farmer's wife before she lost her husband a few years ago. She was born in Sioux County with her two brothers. While growing up she had a lot of cats. Her favorite cat was named Cookie-Poo. Fuzzy was the name of her German Shepherd dog.
School games included baseball and Duck, Duck, Goose. She went to college in Chadron for one year. Her favorite teacher was Pansy Trobridge.
They biggest change that she has seen in her lifetime is the computer.
She has visited twelve states, and the farthest state away was to Washington
She has several jobs today. She keeps company at the Care Center, waters flowers, and delivers mail.
That is what we found out about our grandparent.
