Launch the media gallery 1 playerThe Lady Cat Varsity Basketball team now has four games in the book, winning two and losing two. The latest pair saw a big victory at Crawford (79-46) , and a close high-scoring loss at Mitchell, (72-80).
Against Crawford Shelby Campbell had 24 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, and 1 steal. Brooke Hannaford had a great night, scoring 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals. Ashley Yardley came in with 19 points, 6 assists, 3 boards, and 3 steals. Rachel Fletcher scored 5, had 5 boards, and 2 assists.
Coach Chatelain felt that, “ This was a nice win for our team and our home fans. Crawford always draws our player’s attention, because they are a Panhandle Conference Member and usually bring good athletes to the court.” The players responded well to coaching adjustments at halftime to pull away during the second half.
At Mitchell, the Lady Cats and Mitchell both scored lots of points in the 72-80 loss. Coach Chatelain thought that, “ We are exciting to watch, however we are going to have to do a better job defending and rebounding if we are going to beat the better teams on our schedule. Mitchell showed us some Triple A quickness”.
The Lady Cats have developed some depth however, with 9-10 girls that can compete at the varsity level. Coach Chatelain also thanked fans who had traveled to see the ballgame.
Shelby Campbell lad the way in scoring with 27 points. She also had 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Ashley Yardley scored 19 points, had 7 boards, 3 assists and 3 steals. Brooke Hannaford scored 9, ripped down 10 boards, and had 2 steals. Rachel Fletcher scored 7, and had 9 boards.
