Celebrating spring with the Maypole Dance
May Day, May 1st, also called Beltane (Bright Fire) by the Anglo-Saxons, notes the beginning of the growing season and is celebrated by a Maypole Dance. This is a time of group celebration of joy, merriment and thanksgiving. Kindergarten through 6th grade students wound the Maypole in physical education class to celebrate the coming of May.
