Attack of the Incredible Shrinking Christmas Sweaters

They weren't all Ugly.......................

Ugly Christmas Sweater Day 2007, a tradition you say? Well, though the history of this colorful event is a short one (this is the first official year), it may live on. Lisa Haas came up with the festive idea and on the next to last day of our first semester, the variety of designs brought smiles to the faces of elementary students anticipating gifts and goodies.

High School students, thinking only of final exams and completing that last class project before Friday arrives were also taken in by the colorful spell cast upon our hallways!

Joyce Klemke displayed a mixture of ornaments, decorations, and actual lighting! Besides looking festive, she also was keeping warm!

Emily S. and Luchia S. are astounded by the “shimmering” holiday fabric that makes up the shirt Mr. Zajic is wearing.

First grade students of Mrs. J. Lanik had an extra treat when Mrs. Plog brought newborn son Owen to class.

Mrs. Gasseling’s attire featured Charley Brown and Snoopy.

Grandma Barb and Mrs. Folkerts shared their great smiles.

Mrs. Ningen and Mrs. Benzel share the holiday spirit with Ivan Gibbons and his mother, Kathy.

Deb Campbell, our elementary secretary, in her holiday best.

Mrs. Jennifer Lanik, Kindergarten teacher, shares her surprise!

Mrs. Shaver is joined Mrs. Haas, who took time away from Santa’s workshop to come and read to our seventh grade.

Jane Kuhn, our secondary secretary and Mrs. Harris keep an eye on the arriving high school students, as Nurse Judy joins them in the background.

The early morning walking club, consisting of Mrs. Ningen, Mrs. Thompson, and Mrs. C. Lanik take some time for an early morning visit to make last minute holiday plans. (And no, those coolers of pop in the background are at Bobcat Pitstop – not the school!)

Mrs. Horstman, Mrs. Benda, Mrs Thayer, our secondary principal, Mr. B. Olson, and Mrs. Neefe gather around the high school office in their Christmas finery.

Mr. Foster, elementary principal, reads off the morning quiz and announcements.

Mrs. Huddle, third grade teacher, with her Christmas moose (or mousse?)

Mrs. Engelhaupt, our title teacher, whose husband Steve has the world’s largest collection of Christmas ties!

The third grade begins to warm up for the next to last day.

The third grade smiles for the camera.

Mrs. Osmotherly, Mrs. Phillips and the fourth grade take a moment to wish you the best!

Mrs. Phillips and Mrs. Osmotherly with a plethora of holiday color!

Mr. Ningen, our Superintendent, with a poinsettia vest and “handmade” Christmas tie. He said he had to sacrifice another sweater to make it!

Mrs. Zajic, one of our second grade teachers.

Mrs. Cullan, who also teaches second grade at Hemingford Elementary.

Mrs. Prochazka and Mrs. Wilson with the sixth grade, wave their greetings.

Mrs. Davies poses with her snowflake tree in the elementary library.

Second graders share their holiday spirit.

Well, what a good start to the next to last day, Ugly Christmas Sweater Day at Hemingford Public Schools! Even though our students and staff sincerely enjoy working together, and learning together, they all seem to be looking forward to the semester break too!

Have a very Merry Christmas, and we’ll see you in 2008!
