A Little Bit of Alaska Comes to Hemingford Schools
by Ron Foster
February 04, 2007
Students in kindergarten through
eighth grade attended an assembly that lasted about 45 minutes on
Friday, February 2nd. The assembly was put on by
Alaskan resident and MushHusky! owner and guide Doug Ruzicka. He
entertained the school children and adults with demonstrations of
the same dog sledding equipment that he uses on the trail, slides
of the Alaskan dog sledding experience and lifestyle, and stories
and tales from the trail.
He brought along a dogsled and a lot of gear
that he uses to deal with the Alaskan cold and to support a dog
team on the trail. He also brought Night Light, one of the dogs
from his team. He showed visuals of the Alaska state flag, arctic
clothing, and dog harnesses. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the
assembly. Click link for slideshow.
